Dancing with Fireflies Foundation is a 100% woman-led, volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to restoring light, hope, and dignity to foster youth starting in the beautiful state of Tennessee.
We believe that when a community unites, its collective light can transform uncertainty into possibility—one act of kindness at a time.
The Reality We Face
The 24-Hour Crisis Every year, nearly 8,000 children enter the Tennessee foster care system. In the chaos of a sudden transition, many are given nothing more than a plastic garbage bag to carry their belongings. A disposable bag sends a silent, damaging message: that their lives and their history are disposable, too. We believe every child deserves a vessel that reflects their inherent worth.
The Empty Threshold Approximately 900 young adults age out of the Tennessee foster system every year. While they are often handed a key to a new apartment, they are frequently stepping into a completely empty space. Without a support system or basic resources, the dream of independence can quickly become a struggle for survival.
Restoring Dignity Through Community At Dancing with Fireflies, we don’t just provide “stuff.” We provide a foundation. By replacing a trash bag with a sturdy duffel and an empty room with a “Welcome Home” kit, we ensure that no one has to navigate these life-altering transitions in the dark.

Our Programs: Lighting the Way
Comfort Care Bags
Restoring dignity for children entering the foster system. We replace the indignity of plastic trash bags with sturdy, high-quality duffel bags filled with comfort that a child can call their own.
The Impact: A tangible reminder that they are seen, valued, and loved during their most vulnerable first 24 hours.
What’s Inside:
The Comfort: A soft blanket and a plush stuffed animal.
The Spark: Journals, books, coloring supplies, and a water bottle.
The Essentials: Hygiene items and warm clothing (socks and gloves).
The Cost: Approximately $45 to fully assemble and deliver one bag.
“Welcome Home” Kits
Building a foundation for independent adulthood. For young adults aging out of the system, we help transform a bare apartment into a home—turning a key into a future.
The Impact: Providing the fosters aging out of the system what they need to step into adulthood with confidence, security, and dignity.
What’s Inside:
Kitchen & Dining: Pots, pans, dishes, cooking utensils, and a cutlery set.
Bed & Bath: A plush towel set, pillow, and a full comforter set.
Home Essentials: Laundry basket, garbage can & bags, broom set, laundry essentials, and a full suite of cleaning supplies.
Additional Touches: When possible, we include a toaster oven, hangers, oven mitts, and gift cards for groceries and personalized shopping.
The Cost: Approximately $380 to provide a solid foundation for a young adult stepping out on their own.
